Position: Counsellor Part time

Counselling

  • Provide specialized individual counselling for female and male victims of sexual assault and sexual abuse
  • Counselling and support for victim’s family members, partners/spouse and friends
  • Develop and implement brief intervention, short or long-term counselling plan
  • Maintain accurate records, progress reports and other documentation of the agency
  • Maintain client data and ensure it is entered into agency’s database and statistical systems/programs
  • Share the responsibilities of providing Community Health Information presentations/workshops
  • Intakes and assessments
  • Crisis intervention during business hours

Group Facilitator

  • Co-facilitate groups
  • Identify, develop, modify as needed a group curriculum for female and male survivors
  • Work with staff to implement groups
  • Assist in the implementation of group evaluation tools
  • Develop and implement client screening process
  • Assist with the preparation of weekly group sessions
  • Assist staff in research and preparing education material for group participants
  • Meet with co-facilitators to discuss progress of group process and evaluations
  • Complete paper work as group screening, consent forms, confidentiality, liability release forms etc.
  • Provide one on one counselling follow up for individual group participants as needed

Qualifications

  • Degree in social work or psychology
  • Experience in individual and group counselling
  • Knowledge and professional experience in the area of sexual assault, abuse and violence
  • Thorough understanding of group dynamics and group process
  • Knowledge and application of various treatment/theoretical modules including crisis intervention
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to maintain good working relationship with co-workers and other community agencies
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge and experience in working with diverse client cultures
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Responsible, reliable, flexible
  • 21 hours per week 9 – 4:30
  • Occasional after hours work
